Widowed Single Parent
Situation:
Jamie, a working mother with three young children, had recently lost her self-employed husband to a long illness. She found herself struggling with raising three children by herself, being the sole income source, and dealing with the immediate and ongoing financial and legal matters for her young family.
Solution:
Fortunately for Jamie and her family, one of the first important decisions she made in her new role was to search out and hire an investment advisor. THOR Investment stepped in and went to work immediately. We first assisted Jamie in the execution of the estate planning documents, insuring that the appropriate probate and planning decisions were made. One of the critical issues facing Jamie at this time was the disposition of her husband’s business. With THOR’s help, the assets in the business were sold, the business was terminated and the necessary legal paperwork was completed. Jamie also felt that she needed to downsize her current home. Even though her children were still young, maintaining the large home she and her husband had purchased several years ago by herself was an overwhelming thought. THOR worked jointly with Jamie and a real estate agent to find an appropriate new home, review the contract and secure appropriate financing. Finally, Jamie needed help with her investments. THOR helped Jamie to build an investment policy statement and invest her assets appropriately, including the insurance proceeds, as well as select the appropriate investments in her 401(k) plan at work.
